Preparing for Reception

Starting Reception is an exciting milestone. We work with children and families to make the move as positive and confident as possible.

What School Readiness Really Means

Being “school ready” is not simply about reading, writing or counting. Some of the strongest foundations for Reception grow through play, relationships and everyday experiences.

  • Confidence
  • Independence
  • Communication
  • Curiosity
  • Relationships
  • Healthy routines

Building Independence

Little by little, give your child the chance to practise:

  • Putting on coats and attempting zips and buttons
  • Using the toilet and washing hands independently
  • Eating with cutlery and opening their own lunchbox
  • Managing shoes and looking after belongings
  • Making simple choices and having a go before asking for help

Children don't need to have mastered all of this before their first day — just the chance to practise, and confidence that grows with them.
